Frequently Asked Questions about Hiring Castellers
About the exhibition
What does the castells exhibition look like?
- We enter by surprise in formation, all dressed in our shirts with musicians playing in front.
- We give a brief 1-2 minute explanation for context.
- We build the castell and the audience applauds.
- We finish with a pilar where volunteers from the audience can help in the base and the enxaneta pulls out a surprise banner with a personalised message.
How do you adapt the performance to each event?
We adapt the format to each event: the type of structure, number of castellers, music, explanation, audience participation, and any personalised elements. Once we know the venue, schedule, and visual impact you want, we recommend the best setup.
How long does the performance last?
It can be a short, highly visual intervention or a more extended format with extra explanation and participation. We adapt to the event schedule and define the details in the quote.
Do you provide explanations during the performance?
Yes, we can give a brief 1-2 minute explanation to put the performance and the casteller tradition into context. We give you complete freedom to decide what message you want to convey.
About space and requirements
How much space is needed for a performance?
As a reference, a clear 4×4 metre space and good height clearance help, but requirements depend on the structure and format. We validate the venue with you before confirming the performance.
Can you perform indoors?
Yes, we perform indoors and outdoors as long as the space and height requirements are met. For indoor venues, we review the ceiling height, available space, and floor type so the structure fits the venue.
Do you perform outside Catalonia?
Yes, we perform throughout Spain and internationally. Contact us for a customised quote including travel.
About the service and pricing
What does the service include?
The service includes insurance for all castellers, the musicians (gralla and timbal), transport, and the personalised banner. We are a service that manages the performance directly with the colles castelleres (casteller groups).
How much does it cost to hire a castellers performance?
The price varies depending on the format, location, logistics, and personalised elements. Contact us for a personalised quote. We usually reply within 24 hours.
How is payment handled?
Payment terms are defined with the personalised quote and the event schedule.
How far in advance should I book?
We are very flexible with timelines. We can organise performances even at short notice. However, we recommend contacting us as soon as possible to ensure availability.
About safety and participation
Is it safe? What safety measures do you have?
Safety is our top priority. We carry liability insurance for all castellers and they follow rigorous safety protocols.
Can guests participate?
Yes! We end the performance with a pilar, a smaller castell, where volunteers from the audience can help in the pinya (base). When the enxaneta (the person at the top) crowns the pilar, they pull out a surprise banner with a personalised message.
Can you include a personalised message?
Yes! When the enxaneta crowns the final pilar, they pull out a surprise banner with a personalised message that we print at no extra cost. It's a very special moment and perfect for photos.
About castells culture
How long have castells existed?
Castells have over 200 years of history. Their origins date back to the 18th century in Valls (Tarragona), and in 2010 UNESCO inscribed them on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
What is the music played during the performance?
Castells music is played on the gralla (a traditional Catalan wind instrument) and the timbal (drum). The toc de castells guides each phase of the construction and is an essential part of the performance.
